consolo Filippo Consolo carried out his Master Degree in Biomedical Engineering (December 2006) at Politecnico di Milano, graduating with a Master Thesis on a computational fluid dynamics model for the analysis of transport phenomena within an extracorporeal liver support device. In 2008, his work was awarded from the American Society of Mechanical Engineering, during the 2008 ASME Summer Bioengineering Conference. In 2010, Filippo obtained the European PhD degree in Biomedical Engineering from Politecnico di Torino, working on the combined use of multiscale numerical modelling techniques and bio-nanotechnology for Tissue Engineering applications. During his PhD, he worked at the Dept. of Physics of the Faculdade de Ciencia e Tecnologia dela Universidade Nova de Lisboa, in Lisbon (9 months), and at the Dept. of Chemistry of the Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna (5 months).
Since 2010, he has a post-doc position at the Dept. of Bioengineering of Politecnico di Milano. His current research activity concerns the design of dynamic cell culture systems for the development of biomimetic tissues/organs for Regenerative Medicine purposes. In addition, he works on developing new in vitro diagnostic tools for the minimization of the thrombotic risk in patients implanted with mechanical circulatory support devices (LVADs). He is responsible of two laboratory units (Th-Lab @ Dept. of Bioegnineering Politecnico di Milano, and PAS-Lab @ the Coagulation Service and Thrombosis Research Centre of San Raffaele Hospital). Since 2011, he serves as Assistant Lecturer of the course of Laboratory of Bio-fluidodynamycs (Dept. of Bioegnineering, Politecnico di Milano). He is author of 10 peer-reviewed international papers, 2 book chapters, and more than 40 proceedings and abstracts in international conferences.
